This panel and reception celebrated the launch of the digital exhibit Many Voices, One Community: Oral Histories of Black Life at Michigan Law. Drawing from a growing collection of oral histories created by Michigan Law students, and in partnership with the Inclusive History Project, the exhibit examines the history of the Black experience and of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) at Michigan Law School.
The panel gathered student researchers and alumni they interviewed: Co-hosts Alexis Freeman (3L, BLSA) and Tara Abdullah-Nri (2L, BLSA) and panelists Kimberly D’Haene, ’03 (Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Michigan Law); Michele Coleman Mayes, ’74 (General Counsel (ret.), New York Public Library; and Kendall B. Williams, ’77 (President and CEO, the Williams Firm). Participants discussed their time at Michigan Law, its impact on their careers, and guidance for today’s students, followed by a Q&A session.
This event was supported by a 2025 IHP Research & Engagement Fund grant.
