Funding Opportunities

IHP Support for Teaching, Research, & Engagement

The IHP provides support for faculty, staff, and students on the university’s three campuses to undertake research projects, teaching initiatives, and other activities related to the IHP’s mission.

Funds may support the development of new research projects or the completion or expansion of existing ones, as well as the development of courses, engagement activities, and events that facilitate learning about and communicating U-M’s history.

IHP Research & Engagement Fund
Large Grants

Large grants support a wide range of projects that include research on the university’s history and engagement in some form and thereby contribute to better understanding the university’s history of inclusion and exclusion.

  • Grant Amount

    Up to $25,000

  • Deadline

    February 13, 2025

  • Eligibility Reqs

    Proposals are accepted from staff and faculty on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses and at Michigan Medicine, and collaborative teams are especially encouraged to apply. Undergraduate and graduate students can be members of those collaborative teams.

Mini Grants

Mini grants provide funding for research projects, creative endeavors, and engagement activities that develop and share deeper knowledge of U-M’s history through a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens.

    Up to $3,000

  • Deadline

    Proposals accepted on a rolling basis

  • Eligibility reqs

    Proposals are accepted from undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, and staff on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses and at Michigan Medicine.

IHP Event Co-Sponsorship Fund

The IHP offers co-sponsorship opportunities for events hosted by organizations and units on the Flint and Dearborn campuses. Funding is available to support events that align with the IHP’s mission to study, document, and share an inclusive history of the University of Michigan.

    Up to $500

  • Deadline

    Applications accepted on a rolling basis

  • Eligibility Reqs

    Applications are accepted from organizations or units on the Flint and Dearborn campuses. For organizations or units based on the Ann Arbor or medical campuses, please email the IHP directly at [email protected] for more information.

IHP Teaching Fund

The IHP funds compelling, innovative undergraduate and graduate teaching that advances both the creation and dissemination of knowledge about the university’s past with regard to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Up to $3,000 for course redesign
    Up to $5,000 for course development

  • Deadline

    Fall 2025

  • Eligibility Reqs

    Proposals are accepted from individual instructional faculty members, including tenure track faculty, clinical faculty, and lecturers, on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses and at Michigan Medicine, as well as from collaborative teams.
